Jul. 31st, 2006 10:06 amI see that French actor/director Gérard Oury's just died.
I heartily recommend his La Grande Vadrouille if you've never seen it (don't be put off by its crap title in English: Don't look now, We're Being Shot at! - yeuch). I'd never heard of it until
stefanc decided to introduce me to the comedic star turn that was Louis de Funes, who was a sort of madcap nutter French character comedy actor with a great line in pompous little idiots.
It's basically a farce set in Second World War Paris. De Funes plays a pompous little (naturally) conductor, and Terry Thomas plays one of several British air pilots forced to bail out over Paris. There are also some superb comedy Germans.
A must see. Thank you M. Oury.
