I just discovered that one of my favourite Pet Shop Boys songs, to wit In The Night is actually based on a real-life thing: a French youth movement during the Second World War. And here was me thinking it was just a French name they'd made up.

Well, you learn something every day.

Took me ages to find that out, too. I can't even remember how I found out, except that I do remember it was in the early 90s, so I couldn't have just looked it up on the Internet. Might have been a real paper encyclopedia, except that something must have prompted me to look it up in the first place. Possibly there was a documentary or newspaper article that mentioned them.
