I appear to have the pox.

Chickenpox, to be precise. I will therefore be in self-imposed quarantine for the next week, and will have to miss my friend's wedding on Saturday. Boo.

I am not looking forward to the next few days very much.

Oh dear, poor thing - have you never had it before?

Light cotton clothing and cool baths with oatmilk (hang a sock full of porridge oats under the tap) will help with the itchiness. And eat lots of garlic - apparently it acts as an anti-viral.

Nope. Never got it as a kid.

I've been given some aciclovir to try to limit the symptoms, so hopefully garlic may not be completely necessary. Not that there's anything wrong with garlic, of course - I just don't actually have any in the house right now. :o)

Not having garlic in the house? That's like not having lemons, or milk! Weirdo!

I'm glad they've given you anti-virals - sometimes they don't bother if they think you only have it mildly.

I thought vaccines against chickenpox were common enough that adults didn't really get it any more. How odd.

Hopefully you'll recover soon!

I had chickenpox when I was eleven. You'll be OK - the worst part is the itchy scratchy aspect. Get well soon xx

Oh bum.
Hope you feel better soon.

Poor you
Glad they've been able to give you something that will make it not so bad
My mum's chickenpox-specific tip is 'sit on your hands' (to prevent scratching)
Calamine lotion applied liberally should soothe it some, but be warned it will cover everything you touch in pink dust

xx

Oh, poor you!
I had it when I was 16, visiting New York for the first time (so saw only my hotel room), and also had my young cousin with a new camera wanting lots of photos and the younger cousins clamouring to know if I had all those spots because I was English...

Hope the aciclovir helps - I recall living off chocolate milk and bananas for a week and having lots of baths in the dark as cool baths made it feel better but the surround-mirrors were too depressing!

Get well soon and, in the meantime, crack open a bottle of calamine.

oh love, that's not great! Echoing the calamine lotion and oaty baths advice from above. And mittens taped to your hands ala "Friends" if the itching all gets too much

Get well soon!
