Strangely enough, that's the most encouraging thing I've read all day. All the "Why don't you cycle to work? It's fun and it's healthy!" sites seem to linger a little too much for comfort on the "don't worry, nasty accidents only happen occasionally, as long as you make sure you do this, do that, don't do this, don't do that, don't be an idiot" angle. Which is a bit offputting tbh.
It's not the distance (I cycled longer than that twice last weekend), it's getting over committing myself to the nasty traffic.
Yes; that's the idea. I cycled from stefanc's to my gym (which is near my work) yesterday on a more direct route that took in Essex Road, Upper Street and turning right there onto Pentonville Road where, due to my unfamiliarity with the route and my own inexperience, half way down the hill I found I'd forgotten to stick to the right hand side, and was just very lucky that a car let me in (all the cars have to turn off left half way down, but cyclists can carry on down the whole thing). That was reasonably light Bank Holiday traffic, I think; I really wouldn't fancy going that way in peak rush hour. That turning at Angel would give me a heart attack every time, for a start.
That'll be a doddle. I used to do that all the time back in Mpls. *sigh* I miss my bike. I need to find a decent folding bike. It'd be like my own personal transformer. I could even make that fwoak-wrack-wrack-wrack noise every time I folded it up or out.

Date: 2006-05-02 03:02 pm (UTC)I just love showering at work! We have a BIG shower, and limitless hot water. Sometimes I shower at lunchtime, just for the enjoyment. Is that wrong?
