Doing the exam for this OU course on Monday. I bought the previous five past papers months ago, but they don't come with solutions so you're left out on a limb a bit. Stupidly, I didn't think to look online to see if there were any available there, and I stumbled across a couple of helpful sites today while looking for something else.

So I now have worked solutions for each of my past papers, which will be a huge help over the final few days of preparation.

ION, took a night off from revision last night to go down the pub with [livejournal.com profile] stefanc, his folks and their quiet - though it turns out very lovely - tenant Nick, and participated in the pub quiz.

We won!

That course looks fab! I'd be tempted (after some lower-level courses) but was rather put off by the bit saying "if you have severe hearing difficulties this course will be very difficult", suggesting they use lots of audio DVDs.

WTF? It's *maths*!

Hmmm. I wouldn't have thought this would be insurmountable; they use some audio material, but not much, in some chapters, to guide you though a few processes ("We have seen that [blah]; stop the tape and fill in box 1 now; try to fill in as much as you can yourself before turning to the answers in box 1A"). And the videos sometimes have graphs on the screen while an explanation happens. However, most of the material is in book format, with lectures on top. I never find the videos (in any OU maths course) terribly useful, beyond giving me a bit of a breather from slogging through the written material. And even if they couldn't do transcripts of the cassette/CD material (which would be strange), then I don't think that would matter too much either, as most of the instructions are already on the page, with answers on later pages.

What I'm saying is, if you like the look of the course otherwise, don't let the caveats they have to put on the introduction page put you off. The important bits of it are all in the books.
