my workplace

The thing about medialand is that traditionally, the workers there, though pretty well paid, are the poor cousins of the City boys and girls.

Also traditionally, we have more fun.

Apparently ZenithOptimedia won Pathfinder Employer of the Year last night, so this morning they'd set up in reception with mounds of croissants, orange juice and, crucially, champagne.

After I typed that sentence, I took a sip of the Buck's Fizz on my desk.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Congratulations on the award!

Oh, how NICE!

I'm glad I went to all those deportment classes, so I learned how to say "Oh, now NICE!" instead of "Well F*** YOU!"

Surely those would be etiquette classes, as deportment relates specifically to how one holds one's body.

I think deportment classes cover all aspects of how one 'deports' oneself.

Anyway, it's the punchline of a joke. I didn't write it.

A quick check - you are correct, that deport & deportment have this wider meaning. But that wasn't my understanding of deportment classes!

I love that joke. You should hear Lil tell it in her best Southern-lady accent :-)

I think I originally heard it from Graham Clark, who got it from a drag queen in Denver.

Hey-ho - give it a few weeks and the free client wine will be flowing here.

Mmmm... client wine...

Made from freshly-pressed clients.

Ah well. While civil servants get no perks whatsoever, having to pay for our Christmas dos even, there are distinct advantages to working on food.
On Friday we needed seasonal, local, and impressive food for a meeting. We interviewed various caterers and ended up with Caterer With Clue who realised if he impressed us there might well be more contracts coming his way. Our budget suddenly stretched to some very nice Kentish wine...
Lots of meetings in restaurants owned by people we work with, too!

Um, we got a chocolate advent calendar from a recruitment agency. We opened it last week, as our love for chocolate is greater than our fear of god.
