A bit of sad news

My mother died today. Apparently it was very quick; they're not sure yet what caused it (although it sounds like heart failure to me). My Dad told me that she came in from shopping and started complaining that her back was hurting. Fifteen or so minutes later he was in the garden and heard her calling him. He rushed over and caught her as she fell; she was saying she couldn't breathe and could he call an ambulance. He did so, but it was too late.

I'll be going up to Scotland tomorrow and staying for about a week. I'm very lucky to have a boss who is as much a friend as he is a boss, and he has told me to take as much time as I need.

There are two good things. For some time now, whenever I've been on the phone to either of my parents, aware that they're getting on a bit, I've been making sure that the last thing I say to them when I ring off is that I love them, and I did the same last week when I last spoke to her. So that's one.

And the other?

She at least lived long enough to see the SNP triumph. :o)
