I've just been watching Gordon Brown give his first little speech as PM outside 10 Downing Street. I can think of only one thing:

I r serious prime minister. This r serious country.

Well, if we get the next Great Depression over the next few years, he's certainly going to be the leader for the spirit of the age. He's got his Dad's dour presbyterian aura in spades.

There'll be no more wine and canapés at number 10, as Thatcher didn't quite say in 1979.
