I'm on the Telegraph at work this week, which means I caught this piece of classic Boris.

Hilarious stuff. :o)

Quite what my party's MPs were doing giving Tony Blair a standing ovation yesterday I can't imagine.

Stretching their legs and admiring the 'achievement' of being the first PM to leave under his own steam in 20-odd years?

Boris on Quentin Davies' defection: he should offer to be the Labour candidate for Sedgefield, so the people of Grantham can have a proper Tory.

Pure gold.

Scotch mist eh? Reminds me of my mother that does, a Glaswegian herself, although not so dour as good old Gordon.

Mostly good points, except I've missed the part where Blair as PM was ever "play". A PM who works harder on the routine stuff instead of being seduced by the glamour doesn't strike me as such a bad deal.

Is the idea not more a comparison between Brown and Cameron, though? I think he's suggesting that Brown is setting himself up as a hard-grafting Roundhead to David Cameron's toffee-nosed Cavalier. I don't think Blair really comes into it. He's yesterday's man, after all...

I thought the article had a strong implication of Blair's preference for centre-stage politics in this are. Maybe that was just my reading.

Then again, I may be biased - I like the Roundheads.
