Today has mostly been spent spanking my credit card for the first time in ages. I now have

a) a new mobile, an upgraded model of the last one (same number)
b) a watch with the letters "DKNY" on the front. I am not turning into a label queen, but on my way to Oxford St. to try to find somewhere that sold cheap watches, I stumbled into Liberty's and they were having a sale. Said watch did £70 of damage to my card. I was sorely tempted by a nice blue Armani one, but that cost £99 and I didn't really feel I could justify spending that much on a bloody watch. I mean, I have a terrible habit of losing/breaking the things anyway. £70 is the most I have ever spent on a watch; my previous highest was £13.50 from Argos. Either I am growing up or simply becoming more profligate.
c) Various items from Boots, including essentials (new toothbrush, mouthwash etc.), but also some skincare/beauty items that I'm planning to inflict on the Stefster tonight once I have him in my foul and filthy paws.

I went to the gym and spent 45 mins in the actual gym bit, then half an hour in the tiny lagoon-like swimming pool (there was nobody else there!!!). I have just eaten Thai food.

I am a happy person, generally speaking. :o)

Well, I'm using the West End branch of Cannons Health Club. It's near Oxford Circus Station but there are plenty of branches throughout London (and the UK, and some in Holland). The West End one is the only one without a bar/lounge, though, which might go some way to explaining why it's never all that busy. I wouldn't use it for swimming seriously - the pool is too small and really the pool is more for relaxing in than swimming about in. I'm on a £80 six-week trial membership but the regular fees are £69 a month (peak users) and a huge £180 joining fee. That's an awful lot of money so if you're just "idly thinking" about it then you might be better off going to the local leisure centre instead. I intend to join *a* health club as a regular member, but I'm going to have a look at at least one more before I commit to Cannons, as it's fucking expensive, as I believe I have already mentioned. The advantage of Cannons is they don't tie you into a 12-month contract unlike a lot of places. They also include group exercise classes in the price, although bizarrely the club seems awful gender-polarised with the girls going to the group exercise classes and the blokes using the gym. Not that girls don't use the gym too, of course, but I've yet to see a bloke at a group exercise class. Shame, really, 'cos they're good value if you pack enough of 'em in.
