What do you have to do for your green belt? (curious)

Green Belt:

Punches: Jab, Reverse Punch, Uppercut (front & rear), Hook (front & rear), Backfist (front), Ridgehand (front),

Kicks: Roundhouse/Step Roundhouse, Front, Side/Step Side, Hook (front & rear), Axe (inside & outside)

Hands & Legs Combinations
Sparring: 3 x 1 minute semi contact
Equipment Work
Shadow Boxing

It lasts about 75 mins, throughout which you're not allowed to stop moving (shuffling if not doing anything else).

Sounds very physical!

So different to a green belt grading in my club.

I love seeing the differences.

So what's a green belt grading like chez vous? :o) (I know it's a different discipline, but I'm curious too...).

oOops, sorry, should have anticipated that one. :-)

To get a green belt they have to do:-

Kata:
- Gegasai-di-ichi
- Gegasai-di-ni
- Sanchin
The traditional bunkai from each kata, picked at random by Sensei.
Their own self defense type interpretations of each of the bunkai finished with either a lock or a throw.
They get tested on some Japanese words for different stances and techniques.
Then san-dan-gi, which is like a kata but with two people, one attacking and one defending.
They have to put some locks, usually only about 5 at this level.
Then combinations using, for example, kicks, or elbows, or punches, etc. Sometimes this is onto pads, other times they just do them on a person - but stopping short of hitting them. They have to kiai whilst doing each technique.
Self defense from pre-warned attacks, eg, they get told, "you are going to be right hooked.....GO!".
Sparring for about 1 minute.

I don't remember whether they do defense from knives and sticks for the green or whether that is for their blue belts.

There are no breaks for drinks etc and it depends on how many are grading and whether they are adults or kids as to how long it lasts. For this level probably lasts about 15-30 mins.

Actually, some elements are similar.

Oh, and the locks and knive/stick defense is for their blue belt (I checked cos there is a grading in Jan here.)
