A presumed mixup with the mail meant that the first letter disappeared into thin air and so the first I knew about it was Saturday, but having called up the hospital this morning to confirm it seems that I will be going in tomorrow and having my third ear operation on Wednesday.

I am somewhat apprehensive as I have no idea if I will be able to hear anything when I come out; this operation is number three in a series of four, and the first one to be done on my good ear. I am going to request a hearing aid for the other ear, although it's not something I've mentioned before so I have slight concerns about their ability to accommodate the request before I leave. On the other hand, it's the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear hospital we're talking about, so one would assume they will have such things in storage.

I am likely to be out of touch for at least a week, so I just thought I'd say I hope you're all well and I'll see you later.

signing off,

Anne. x

Would good luck/best wishes sentiments be appreciated? In any case, I hope it all goes well. And that the food's not too terrible!

Very sincere good luck for the operation. Hearing aid sounds like a good idea.

Games afternoon towards the end of May perhaps? We're back on the 16th.

Going in tomorrow 1pm, presumably set free on Thursday morning or afternoon as usual barring complications.

Thank you. :o)

Fortunately the food is usually quite nice, kind of reminiscent of better school dinners.

I'll be thinking about you - good luck with it all.
When you get back and are all recovered - do you fancy planning another date in at some point?
Take care of you.

Sounds good, although I don't know what time my operation's going to be at so I could well still be out for the count, as they say...

Hope all goes well, hon. You're in good hands, but I totally understand the trepidation. Perhaps a pint when you're allowed to indulge in such things again?

Good plan. A leisurely shouting match over a quiet pint sounds just the ticket. :o)

Hope it goes well, and they certainly do have hearing aids in storage - but if you've never have moulds taken of your ears I don't know how long it takes to make the earpieces - do ask and they miught be able to speed up the process.

Further to [livejournal.com profile] thekumquat's reply....

If I recall correctly they /can/ make temporary moulds for your ears as I know someone who got some when they stayed with my mum last year. He didn't even have to be registered with that audiology, they just took his details and stuff and made him some temp moulds.... He did however already have hearing aids and broken moulds which they might have used......

Other than that could see if they have any alice band bone conducting aids kicking about - often they don't, but it is worth a blagtry. I wish you the best with poiking audiology and also all the best for being in hospital with duff hearing, been there done that.

Might be worth getting a sign made, 'I can't hear well please get my attention before speaking to me' as I know I often didn't know people were talking to me.
