My own journey into work today (two buses - the recently introduced 476 route [Stef's house - Euston], then route 18 [Euston - Paddington]) was noticeably quieter. In fact, it seemed as if the whole thing is going to be an absolutely gigantic success. Hurrah!

Date: 2003-02-17 05:33 am (UTC)I make no bones about it, by the way. I freely admit to having a militantly dictatorial anti-car stance. I would be happy to see the charge at £100 a day. :o)
I reckon Steve Norris is onto a loser by pledging to repeal the tax if he gets voted in as mayor next time round. After all, the most natural Tory voters are the wealthier car drivers, who can soak up the charge with barely a twinge and will get clearer roads for their money. I wouldn't be at all surprised if wealthier drivers start coming out in favour of the charge soon.

Date: 2003-02-17 05:58 am (UTC)Elephant and Castle was staggeringly quiet at 9:30ish this morning. Whether that's because everyone was stuck somewhere else or the effects of being a school holiday, I don't know.
I'd like to see the roads the way they were during the petrol 'crisis' a couple of years ago.
